Located just out of Montrose, Colorado, the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is truly a natural wonder. No other canyon in North American holds the distinction of being so deep for being so narrow.
Several years ago I was asked by officials at the Black Canyon NP to do some paintings of the park for prints to sell in the parks visitor’s center. I found this assignment to be rather challenging. The Black Canyon is very difficult to paint. The lighting, respective to any particular time of day varies constantly, dramatically influencing the canyon walls and the depth of this wonder.
This is the current offering. These prints are available through Simpson Gallery or at the park’s visitor center.
