Took the motorcycle across southeastern Utah over the holiday via Hwy 12. If you haven’t been this way you really should put it on your trip calendar. Very inspiring scenery for painters and nature lovers alike. Capital Reef NP, Bryce NP, Zion NP are all in the loop. Lots of great photos were taken which should yield some great paintings.
Rode my motorcycle to Taos over the holiday and stayed in a great little classic southwest style motel called the Adobe Wall. I highly recommend it. Fantastic scenery.
Took a great trip to Tucson, AZ for the artist reception and opening of the Mountain Oyster Club Show. We spent a night in Cameron, AZ at the Cameron Trading Post on the Rez on the way down. What a neat place to stay. Our room over looked the Little Colorado Canyon of which I did a little watercolor capturing the beautiful light in the canyon from the setting sun. The dining room is very historic with a tin stamped ceiling. A colorful and interesting place.
Friday we arrived in Tucson but since it was early we went on down to Tubac near the Mexican bordeer. Tubac is a quaint artist colony with a number of galleries and open studios. i did an art show there a couple of years ago and it was fun to go back. Not much has changed however.
While in the area we went a little further south to the Tumacacori Mission where I got some great photos.
Rode our motorcycles to the Grand Canyon over the Memorial Day weekend. The wind was really blowing as we went through Monument Valley on the Navajo Reservation so I didn't get any pictures. We stayed at the Cameron Trading Post which is always a treat. I highly recommend it. The next day was spent in the park taking photos. The Grand Canyon never dissappoints. That night we stayed in the Wigwam Motel in Holbrook, Arizona. You know the place. With the concrete teepees? What a hoot. Right on rte 66. It left such an impression on me I am doing a painting of the place as part of my new series, Fuel for the Dream. The next morning we crossed oveer the "Bucket of Blood Avenue" in Holbrook on our way to the Petrified forrest. I've got to come up with a painting for that...too much character to pass up.
Headed to Bryce on our motorcycles. I always enjoy going through Utah, especially the south east corner. The red rock formations are a delight to paint. The loop will take us through Capitol Reef N.P. too and along the scenic Highway 12. On the way back we will take the ferry across the upper end of Lake Powell and spend a night in Blanding. Great material for future paintings...as always. I'm really looking forward to motorcycle material for my series Fuel for the Dream. See ya when I get back.
Going to make a little loop on the Harley over the 4th of July up to Steamboat Springs, Colorado. We'll spend the night there and then work our way down to Buena Vista for a night to see what they have for fireworks the night of the fourth. The last day we'll ride over Independence Pass into Aspen and on home. This trip will be right in the middle of our summer season so the mountains should be absolutely beautiful for painting. See you when I get back.
